Roof Repair

We assess the full extent of damage before recommending any work, and we’ll tell you honestly if repair or full replacement is the smarter financial decision.

Roof Cleaning Services

Tacoma’s maritime climate makes moss, algae, and lichen buildup one of the most common causes of premature roof failure in Pierce County. Our roof cleaning uses soft-wash chemical treatment — not high-pressure washing — to eliminate biological growth without damaging shingles.

Built for Tacoma's Neighborhoods

We know Tacoma’s specific conditions — the steep pitches of Stadium District bungalows, the moss-prone north-facing slopes of North End craftsman homes, the wind exposure of Ruston waterfront properties, and the flat-roof additions common in South Tacoma. The materials we specify and the installation details we use are chosen for Tacoma’s climate, not adapted from a drier market.

No subcontracted crews. The same licensed team that starts your roof repair or replacement finishes it — with one project manager accountable from the initial assessment through final inspection sign-off and permit closure.

How We Handle Your Tacoma Roofing Project — From Assessment to Final Inspection

We start with a full on-site inspection, not a drive-by estimate. On replacement projects, we inspect decking condition, flashing, ventilation, gutters, and any underlying structural issues. On repair calls, we identify the source of failure rather than patching the symptom. You get a written assessment and a straight recommendation on repair vs. full replacement.

On-Site Inspection

1

Based on your inspection, we walk you through material options with honest recommendations for your home’s architecture, exposure conditions, and budget. You receive a fully itemized estimate — specific product name, labor, Pierce County permit fees, tearoff and disposal, and cleanup. No single-number bids.

Material Selection & Estimate

2

We pull all required permits through the City of Tacoma or Pierce County and schedule the full inspection timeline — you manage zero paperwork. Permit approval in Tacoma typically takes 1–2 weeks. We factor this into the project schedule from day one.

Permitting & Scheduling

3

One licensed in-house crew installs your roof to manufacturer spec — which matters for warranty coverage. Final inspection sign-off from the City of Tacoma or Pierce County closes the permit before we hand off the project. That’s the document that protects your home’s

Trusted Roofing Contractors Tacoma – Real Client Reviews

Here’s what our customers are saying about us on Google, Facebook & Yelp

We hired Orca roofing after our previous contractor messed up the roof and they definitely stepped in a saved the day! We worked with Phaedra, she's great with communication, knowledgable and has a team you can trust! Highly recommend for your roofing projects, they will take care of you!

Paul and Josh were amazing to work with. I had an issue where one of the wood support for my balcony was rotting. They came up with a solution that was economical.

They responded quickly to my request and were able to complete the job in an efficient manner.

What I appreciated most was their ability to communicate their plans on how they were going to address the issue and keeping me apprised on their progress. Also they both had a friendly demeanor so it was easy to chat with them.

I first engaged Orca Roofing & Exteriors to inspect our roof following last year's "Bomb Cyclone". They found a little damage and repaired what was required to keep the roof performing. The tech did note that the ridges needed replacing, so we arranged for an estimate, which was reasonable. Since our gutters also needed replacement, we asked them to tackle that as well.

Their communication throughout the process was outstanding, and their appointment management was excellent. They arrived on time, worked quickly with a minimum of disruption, and completely cleaned up afterward. They shared pictures of the roof repairs so we could see what they had done. The new gutters look great and should greatly improve runoff management. They offered, but didn't pressure us to buy, gutter covers.

Overall, Orca has been very professional and efficient. We won't hesitate to call them should we need more work on our aging roof.

Amazing experience with our condo community roof replacement project. This crew went above and beyond as my family was dealing with a family member in critical condition in the hospital. The leadership (Peter and Eric) and crew made sure we had access to come and go as needed even though our community has very little open space to stage materials. The quality of work is top notch and I would recommend them to anyone looking for great service and great work!

FAQs – Tacoma Roofing Contractors

tacoma roof replacement

How much does roof replacement cost in Tacoma, WA?

Tacoma roof replacement typically runs $8,000–$18,000 for a standard 1,500–2,500 sq ft home with asphalt shingles — including tearoff, Pierce County permits, and cleanup. Metal roofing runs $14,000–$28,000 and Brava composite tile $22,000–$40,000+. Costs vary by roof pitch, access difficulty, and neighborhood — homes in North End and Stadium District with steeper slopes or historic detailing often run toward the higher end. See our roof replacement cost guide for a full Pierce County breakdown.
Yes. Full roof replacements in Tacoma require a permit through the City of Tacoma or Pierce County depending on your jurisdiction. Permits run $300–$800 and require an inspection before final sign-off. We handle the full permit process from application to final inspection — you manage zero paperwork. A contractor who suggests skipping the permit is transferring all liability and resale risk to you.
If damage is isolated — a few missing shingles, a flashing failure, or a single leak — repair is almost always the right call. If more than 30% of the shingles show granule loss, curling, or cracking, if the decking has soft spots, or if repair quotes approach 50% of replacement cost, a full replacement protects your investment better long-term. Tacoma’s sustained rainfall and maritime humidity accelerate wear on aging roofs faster than drier climates. Our roof repair vs. replacement guide covers the full decision framework with real cost thresholds.
Asphalt shingles are the standard recommendation for most Tacoma homes — cost-effective, widely warranted, and built for sustained Pacific Northwest rainfall. For homes in North End and Stadium District where moss is a persistent issue, algae-resistant shingles (GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark) are our default spec. Metal roofing is the best long-term investment for homes that plan to stay 25+ years — zero moss, 40–50 year lifespan, and the lowest total cost of ownership over time. For historic or premium builds, Brava composite tile replicates slate or clay at a fraction of the weight and cost.
Yes. We handle urgent leaks, storm damage, and wind-related failures across Tacoma and Pierce County with fast response times. Tacoma’s proximity to Puget Sound means wind-driven rain events hit hard — if you’re seeing active leaks or missing shingles after a storm, contact us immediately. We triage the situation, apply temporary protection if needed, and provide a full damage assessment before any permanent repair work begins.
Yes. In addition to roofing, Orca Roofing & Exteriors is a licensed deck builder serving Tacoma and Pierce County. We install cedar, Trex composite, TimberTech, PVC, and Aspire Composite Pavers — with Pierce County permits handled and fully itemized pricing. See our Tacoma deck installation page for full details.
